How to add devices to the platform

Adding a device to the Platform creates a virtual instance of your device where you can manage data, track location and create alerts to respond to unexpected events.

Data from these devices can then be visualised, monitored and controlled from within the Platform. For example, a device can be an IQnexus Temperature sensor transmitting via Sigfox or a Smart Water Meter transmitting water consumption via LoRA.

Find your device’s driver

Every IQnexus device has an associated driver that tells the platform how the incoming data is formatted.

You will need to know your devices model number to find the correct driver on the Marketplace.

The model number is located on the sticker on the back of your device

  1. If you haven’t already, create a IQnexus account and log in.

  2. Navigate to your projects devices and select IQnexus Market at the top right of your screen.

  3. Search for your device's driver using the your devices model number in the Driver Name field.

  4. Select Actions → New Device from the menu to the right of the driver.

Device Info

Complete the form to set-up your device info.

Depending on your device and driver you may see some or all of the following fields.

  • A Name is required of all devices and must be unique to the platform. Alpha-numeric characters with spaces, - and _ are allowed. e.g. 12_Smith_st Smart-meter

  • A DevEUI is required of LoRa devices and is your device ID on the LoRa network. Find yours here.

  • ID Sigfox is required of Sigfox devices and is your device ID on the Sigfox network. Contact us if you don’t have this

  • A Location can be set for every device by dragging the pin on the map tool or entering an address

  • The Motion field sets if the device is static or in constant motion. If you select motion the location will be updated using the devices GPS coordinates.

  • The Credential field is a token that is sometimes required depending on your IoT network.

  • A MODBUS Unit Identifier is also sometimes required. This is a unique number between 1 and 254.

  • MODBUS Master IP Address client IP address for MODBUS connection, set as 0.0.0.0 for open access.

  • Application Key: Since v2.2.0, when you add a device here it is automatically added into Chirpstack
If your device is a modbus poll device:

  • Modbus Poll Slave IP The IP address to poll data from

  • Modbus Poll Port The port that we will use to poll data from

  • Modbus Poll Device ID The device id associated with the device you wish to poll data from

  • Modbus Poll Polling Rate (seconds) The amount of seconds between each interval. The minimum is 10 seconds.

If an error or warning shows when you click apply. It is likely one of the above fields is incorrect or not unique. If you continue to have issues, please, contact us.

Ensure your Device is fully configured to get the most from the platform.
